Setting Intention

So often we start the year off making New Year's resolutions, hoping to make drastic changes over the coming months. I'm currently reading the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. He starts off talking about how rare it is for lasting change to occur through drastic behavioral shifts, but that instead, small shifts incrementally lead to better results. I have often relayed a similar message when speaking to others about plans to change their diet or exercise routine, but this is also relevant for broader changes. One thing I started doing in 2022 was to set an intention for the year by choosing a word to set the tone for the months ahead. This may seem like a small, insignificant step towards making change but can really shift the way we think and operate moving forward. I want to continue this practice in 2023 by starting a segment called "Meditate on this".

My first word for the year is TRUST. In the past, I can admit I have struggled with trusting in God's promises and in the power he has given me to accomplish the tasks he's set before me. Like many others, much of my difficulties stemmed from fears and insecurities that I allowed to keep me from attaining the blessings he had in store. People often say you never know how strong you are until being strong is your only option... I recognize now that "courage is not the absence of fear, but fear walking". As I walk into this year with new opportunities and obstacles along my path, my hope is that I remember that no matter what comes, God has given me everything I need to prosper. Let us start this year off trusting in the one who holds the future, who holds our hand, and who holds the power to bring about amazing things in our lives.

TRUST

Meditate on This: "Courage is not the absence of fear, but fear walking." Susan David, Ph.D.
